The Pros of leaving the lab after 23.30

Filed under: Life — Sarah @ 1:16 am

We left the lab today half eleven.  As per usual.  We were walking to Scott’s which involves travelling across the meadows.

Just as we’d left the Uni area and turned a corner onto the meadows something crossed our paths two feet in front of us.

A giant cat!

A small horse!

It was a fox.  A real life fox.  Just in front of us.  He stopped and looked at us.  Then sauntered off towards the library.  He didn’t see us and scarper.  Just checked us out and continued on to return his books.

How amazing is that?!

I have to admit my veeery first thought was more along the lines of this post.  I couldn’t remember whether or not foxes ate humans.  When I remembered they didn’t I was relieved.

The nano

Filed under: Life, Random — Sarah @ 5:00 pm

I promise this will probably potentially be the last time I mention the nano.

But it’s so snazzy.  I’ve never owned an iPod before and I love the Music Quiz game.  It’s super fun!  And quite challenging at times.

Although yesterday (on the train back from seeing Daddy in Glasgow) it played me “Penny And Me” and asked me if it was by the Klaxons.

Erm…. no, no it’s not.

P.S. It’s by Hanson by the way

P.P.S. Yes I have Hanson on my nano…

Networking

Filed under: Life — Sarah @ 10:57 am

I’m at the point in my Uni career when I really have to start thinking about the real world out there. That means visiting lots of careers fairs and putting work into my CV. (Technically I should now be filling in application forms probably).

I have also been doing some extra curricular careers hunting. On Wenesday night, Google (ok, 3 people in recruitment from Google, not the search engine itself) took out a group of ten female informatics students to dinner. I was one of them. They really didn’t need to, everyone knows Google are super wicked awesome to work for. Which is why they can request crazy things of their interns. Crazy things I’m just not capable of with my meager mind. But still it’s worth applying. They have bean bags, lava lamps and FREE BEN AND JERRY’S in their offices.

On another meeting people note. Last night I went to see Hadouken!. They’re the ones who Bassface plays with. I forgot my ID so was doomed to spend the evening with the 14 year old wannabes covered in apparently non-toxic glow stick innarnds. I was highly amused when Chris came on stage with the band. But you should have seen the crowd. Despite it being past their bedtimes they were going mad. I cannot imagine what a rush it must be earning your money from playing music every night and seeing what an affect you can have upon people. I think I’m dropping out of Uni to make music.

Anyway, I got to see him afterwards which lovely and what not.

Go see Hadouken! if you can get tickets. If you want the real experience then forget your ID. If you want the comfortable, safe, un-sweaty, able-to-drink-alcohol experience then bring it and look down upon the great unwashed swarm that is Hadouken!’s fan base.

This is not a pyramid scheme

Filed under: Life, Scott — Sarah @ 3:52 pm

So, there’s an apple pyramid scheme.

1.You don’t own macbook.

2.You meet someone that does.

3.You realise that all you’ve wanted from life is a macbook.

4.You get a macbook.

5.Cause someone else to get a macbook.

Repeat infinitely.

Scott has decided that he “needs” a macbook too.  Despite his much higher spec laptop still working perfectly.  Yes, he’s having two laptops.  I don’t think this is necessary but…

He has bought my silence with an iPod nano.  They come free with macbooks now.  I’d recommend buying one if I were you.  It’s a very good idea.

Dirty Words

Filed under: Life, Random — Sarah @ 11:03 pm

I went to a gig tonight.  It’s the first one I’ve been to in ages.  The first one I’ve paid for in ages too.  No more writing for the Student Newspaper for now.  Gigs are meant to be for fun, I don’t think I need anymore work than I already have.

It was The Departure I went to see by the way.  They were truly excellent.  I miss watching live music.  No matter how tired or not in the mood for it you are you will always come out feeling slightly elated and happier than before.  Music fixes things.

What was the last gig you saw?  What’s your next one?
