Sorry sorry sorry

No posts since the 23rd of December? I’m surprised you’re even here reading this! It’s probably because I have contacted you to tell you I’ve updated I suspect.

Firstly, I’ve updated the links on the right.  John’s one will now take you to his new blog and Martin’s will take you to his new web project.  Go there once you’ve done here.

I should tell you all about the Sarahs’ visit here. It was absolutely excellent. Not only did I get to be a tourist in my studying/working city for a few days but I also got to hang out with my Sarahs which I do not do enough. We went for meals, took advantage of my, Jo’s and Claire’s work discount (that’s lots of money off pashminas and drinks and free entry into the cinema) went on a ridiculously scary ghost tour in which I almost died probably and took a wonderfully scenic walk along the frosted beach. I think my favourite photo from the whole experieince was this, on the bus out to the beach with some (no one get angry now) of my bestest friends.

What else have I done? Well obviously I went home and got to hang out with the family which I always enjoy. I saw some friends, missed too many though. Had a New Year party with FIREWORKS (which went off 20 seconds to early Dad). Had money stolen from me by O2 (over £200) but I shant say anymore than O2 are a horrible company with no morals or manners. Went to London to see the Coram Boy at the National Theatre with Nannon (it was an absolutely amazing show and I would highly recommend it) and then saw Mark the day after and climbed The Monument’s 311 steps (don’t believe me? I’ve been there, done that and got the certificate.) And probably a whole host of other things.

Now I’m back in the Burg. It’s good to be (home from) home. I had an excellent holiday so have no qualms about getting back to business here. I’m trying to do more things here as well. I’m attempting to write for the Student newspaper, running for Class Representative (both of which I will update you all on as soon as anything happens) but I still want more. I feel a bit aimless right now, like I need to make more of time here and do more things. I’m taking a course titled “Innovation and Enterprise for Scientists and Engineers.” I don’t suppose anything will come of it this instance but it’s inspiring me to look for more challenges.

Suggestions anyone?

An Update

Filed under: Life, Jo, Uni Friends, Scott — Sarah @ 12:00 am

Still there is no Internet in our flat so I apologise for the horendous (and rather John like) lack of updates here.

I’ve been having a very good few weeks.

In them I have:

Seen Regina Spektor, Bill Bailey and Jimmy Carr perform (not together),

Partied with the Editors (apparently),

Climbed Arthur’s Seat once more,

Had a flat night out,

Entertained southern friends,

and

Got a job at Tie Rack.

On the subject of jobs:

Claire worked at Barrats and Vue, quit Barrats but stayed at Vue so now we get to go see free films,

Ruth worked at the Union during the festival, got us cheap drinks and did some drug busting,

Josephine earnt £5000 an hour cleaning and then got a job at a bar and now knows all cocktail mixes that exist,

and

Scott quit Morissons and got a job at H&M and soon will get a 25% discount.

If you’re expecting a Christmas present from me this year, it is most likely going to be a tie, scarf, or piece of H&M stock.

Wowee, such a lot of stuff happening, and all whilst (and despite) the overwhelming numbers of tourists blocking the paths, urinating on the walls and stumbling around the streets of Edinburgh.

I love the festival.

Fellowship of the Rink

Filed under: Life, Family, John, Jo, Uni Friends — Sarah @ 8:11 pm

Firstly, stop talking about Buffy.  Buffy sucks.

Secondly, Mark, it’s Roddy Woomble.  Seriously, you can get in trouble for saying Womble up here in Scotland.  I nearly lost an eye the other night.

Ok, today, on the first week-iverssary of my 19th Birthday, I decided to celebrate with my Burg crew.  I decided the best way to do this was to go ice skating.

People (more or less) turned up at 2.30 at the flat.  From there Jo, Ruth, John, Alec, Claire, Kat, Lauren, Scott and I went to the bus stop where we caught the number 30 bus.  This was the correct bus to get.  We just messed up, as a group.  I didn’t do anything wrong.  Anyway, this is a bus group shot, missing a few people.

So it turned out that we missed our stop.  And then the next 5 stops after that.  So we had a fair treck to get to the ice rink.  There were nine of us, we were on a quest, John pointed out that we were the fellowship of the rink.  I laughed and told John I would use it then give him props.  John, take your props.  On the walk we found a play area.  After a brief play, it was on to our destination.

We made it, with half an hour to spare.  With such little time left, we knew we had to GET OUR SKATES ON!  Haha, now that’s a good joke.

I have decided that people need awards after the skating.  Here they are in surnamical alphabetical order:

IceAlec.JPG

Alec wins the award for most spectacular speed skating fall.  It was the only fall…during the only race.  But it meant I didn’t lose.

IceJohn.JPG

John wins the award for best (unintentional) tap dancing on ice performance.  The spirit of the dance is within you.

IceClaire.JPG

Claire wins the award for THE MOST ANNOYING TOP.  I know it’s not ice skating related but Claire, seriously, that top is annoying when stroked downwards.

IceRuth.JPG

Ruth wins the award for safest skater.

IceJo.JPG

Josephine wins the award for best putting up with me picking stupid activites to celebrate my birthday with.  Well done for not falling over Josephine.

IceLauren.JPG

Lauren wins the award for most unexpected skater.  Thank goodness she found the tenner in her jeans pocket or she may not have been with us.

IceKat.JPG

Kat wins the award for most ridiculous fashion choice for ice skating.  Skinny jeans’d.

IceScott.JPG

Scott wins the Billy Elliot award for aspiring talent.  Reach for the stars.

I win the award for organisational nouse and for being a navigat0r X-traodinaire.

This is a group photo.  Enjoy it.

Hopefully once I gather photos from other people there may be some more amusing ones.  Wait and see!

Kittensoft?

Filed under: Life, University, Jo, Uni Friends — Sarah @ 5:00 pm

Today, Josephine and I are better people than you are. We recycled everything in the kitchen more or less and then went to the gym and then recycled again! You are jealous, your conscience is jealous of mine’s state of being. As if that’s not enough, I’m going to go do some work on my assignment and practice some piano.

The TV on the cross trainer at the gym was stuck showing the Commonwealth Games. I empahsise games because it was table tennis. Table tennis? Well that sucked for a good ten minutes, then the Welsh guy lost and the table tennis stopped. Phew right? NO. Next was BOWLS. Bowls for goodness sake. It was Australia versus South Africa. I don’t know about you, but when I see an Australian team dressed in yellow with the green stripes, mirrored glasses and cap I expect them to be going out to play cricket. The most uncool an Australian can do, is play bowls. Official. Come on Australia, you’re better than that.

Also, in farmfoods today I saw this product:

Kittensoft

Toilet roll? Kittensoft? That’s not how I like my toilet roll. That’s just kind of creepy.

My opinion is right

Filed under: Life, Jo, Uni Friends — Sarah @ 12:32 pm

I went to Glasgow last night with Alec to see Nine Black Alps.  What an amazing gig.  Really, it’s probably the best I’ve ever been to.  The venue (The ABC) was quite big so the crowd was pretty sparse.  That meant that you could get seriously involved in the jumping at the front of the stage very easily.  Equally when a crowd surfer gets thrown onto your head and you bite your lip then fall over because the drunk guy in front has forgotten how to stand you could step back and appreciate the band with a good old fashioned foot tapping.  This time round there were two support acts.  The first one were ok, nothing brilliant but easy to listen to enough.  The second one, Longcut, were pretty awesome actually.  The lead singer kept switching between being up front and singing and heading back to the drum kit in between songs.  The songs were interesting and varied enough to get away with long periods of instrumentals.

Who do I think I am?  NME?

I’m off to York for the weekend with Josephine to visit her family.  I have my window wide open and the sky is blue, I could hear birds singing before I put my music on, I hope York will be as lovely.

This week has been awesome.  Awesome awesome awesome.

Help with graffiti

Filed under: Life, John, Jo — Sarah @ 1:13 pm

I’ve stolen Josephine’s very grown up and mature felt tip pens that write on windows.  So far I have stars and the words “Sarah Rules” up there.

Give me something else to write up there.  I’ll even take pictures of it when it’s done.  My imagination is broken.  (John this is your cue.)
