That rain smell

Filed under: Life, Family, University, John, Uni Friends, Scott — Sarah @ 7:23 pm

I am back in Essex now. This is now the only abode that I live at as I have been thrown from my University accommodation. It was rather stressful/sad packing everything that I’ve been living with for a year into a bag.

I had to say good bye for the forseeable future to John yesterday too. That was a bit intense. I’ve always known that he would leave but I didn’t think he actually would. I cried a bit. You would too if your one of your best friends was leaving your life after only having been in it for 9 months. I shall miss him greatly but I do hope he’s enjoying his extensive travels around Europe and Africa.

If that wasn’t bad enough I also had to say good bye to Scott this morning although hopefully that will only be for a month. Sad sad sadness.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing you Southerners though.

Another thing to make me happy to be home was that I finally got my birthday present from Amy. It is the tshirt you’ve been longing for all your life.

Haha, the answer is of course Y. Type it now, see what happens…*

Scott posted a picture of a squirrel that he took whilst we were at the botanic garden. It’s poor, this one that I took is better in every way.

Finally, if you have heard of or check regularly the website Post Secret then I suggest you check out this week’s lot of post cards. The penultimate card is the best one I’ve ever seen. Check it. It makes me happy.

*If I’ve done this right then absolutely nothing at all should happen.

Fellowship of the Rink

Filed under: Life, Family, John, Jo, Uni Friends — Sarah @ 8:11 pm

Firstly, stop talking about Buffy.  Buffy sucks.

Secondly, Mark, it’s Roddy Woomble.  Seriously, you can get in trouble for saying Womble up here in Scotland.  I nearly lost an eye the other night.

Ok, today, on the first week-iverssary of my 19th Birthday, I decided to celebrate with my Burg crew.  I decided the best way to do this was to go ice skating.

People (more or less) turned up at 2.30 at the flat.  From there Jo, Ruth, John, Alec, Claire, Kat, Lauren, Scott and I went to the bus stop where we caught the number 30 bus.  This was the correct bus to get.  We just messed up, as a group.  I didn’t do anything wrong.  Anyway, this is a bus group shot, missing a few people.

So it turned out that we missed our stop.  And then the next 5 stops after that.  So we had a fair treck to get to the ice rink.  There were nine of us, we were on a quest, John pointed out that we were the fellowship of the rink.  I laughed and told John I would use it then give him props.  John, take your props.  On the walk we found a play area.  After a brief play, it was on to our destination.

We made it, with half an hour to spare.  With such little time left, we knew we had to GET OUR SKATES ON!  Haha, now that’s a good joke.

I have decided that people need awards after the skating.  Here they are in surnamical alphabetical order:

IceAlec.JPG

Alec wins the award for most spectacular speed skating fall.  It was the only fall…during the only race.  But it meant I didn’t lose.

IceJohn.JPG

John wins the award for best (unintentional) tap dancing on ice performance.  The spirit of the dance is within you.

IceClaire.JPG

Claire wins the award for THE MOST ANNOYING TOP.  I know it’s not ice skating related but Claire, seriously, that top is annoying when stroked downwards.

IceRuth.JPG

Ruth wins the award for safest skater.

IceJo.JPG

Josephine wins the award for best putting up with me picking stupid activites to celebrate my birthday with.  Well done for not falling over Josephine.

IceLauren.JPG

Lauren wins the award for most unexpected skater.  Thank goodness she found the tenner in her jeans pocket or she may not have been with us.

IceKat.JPG

Kat wins the award for most ridiculous fashion choice for ice skating.  Skinny jeans’d.

IceScott.JPG

Scott wins the Billy Elliot award for aspiring talent.  Reach for the stars.

I win the award for organisational nouse and for being a navigat0r X-traodinaire.

This is a group photo.  Enjoy it.

Hopefully once I gather photos from other people there may be some more amusing ones.  Wait and see!

So, put yourself in this situation.  You’re a vegan, you’re SICK of always eating healthily.  What on earth can you do?  Well follow this 5 step plan and you’ll be eating an unhealthy breakfast before you know it.

Step One

Reason #139

Filed under: Life, Family, University, John, Uni Friends — Sarah @ 2:01 pm

How’s THIS for an update huh?  Be prepared to be (literally) blown away with a mass of information, tales, and and photos.  You wont know what has hit you, only that it was awesome and it RULED.

Ok, here comes the information.  The more dedicated followers out there will remember this post regarding John and his best mates Busted.  Now, in a spectacular follow up I give you this link.  Go there and scroll down to the fifth comment, the one beginning “THE FINALE WAS FANTASTIC” and look at the highlights of episode 5.  The guy at the radio station?  I KNOW HIM.  Man, it’s hard having all these famous connections.

My game is going well thank you.  I think I’m making it obviously contrived.  Maybe.  It’s not the most interesting game…probably meaning it’s not a game.  But sometime soon it will be on the interweb and you all will be able to play it hopefully.  Along with everyone else’s game.  NEVER BE BORED AGAIN.  That’s how I’ll market it.

Now, one week ago, the parents and sisterface came up to visit the Burg and I.  A good time was had by all, mainly by Bella Italia who got a lot of custom from us over the week.  Mid week the family checked out Inverness and Loch Ness.  Go to sarahsfamilywishtheyruled.co.uk for photos.  Anyway, they left on Friday but not before we went for a walk to the duckpond.  Friday started off wonderfully.  Clear blue skies, not to cold, not warm but then…things got nasty.  Scott and I walked to meet the family to go to the duck pond, me in a skirt and by the time we got there it had started lightly snowing.  By the time we left, we looked like this:

Snow24.JPG

Blizzardy or what?  After parents had left and Scott and I had done our Maths tutorial we decided to go see more snow now that is had stopped falling.  Cue standard walk to Arthur’s Seat and beyond.

Snow21.JPG

That’s Arthur’s Seat, there was much more snow on it before I took this photo.  Honest.  I think most of it had been sledded away.  As is The Burg’s way, it always wants the best of both worlds.  Just a couple of minutes round the hill and it looked like this:

Snow22.JPG

Then, about 10 minutes further on there was another duckpond.  Here is an artily framed photo of it.

Snow23.JPG

It was a super top lovely walk.

Last night I saw Death Cab For Cutie play at the Barrowlands in Glasgow.  What a very good gig.  I don’t think I’ve ever been to a gig for a band who aren’t from somewhere in the UK.  They also didn’t have some sort of moshy thing going on at the front.  Was rather strange but still good.

“Hey, we’re a band from Seattle called Death Cab For Cutie.  We’re honoured to entertain you on this Saturday night.”

How very American.

Recently I have been taking some rather cool photos with my camera phone.  After having been against camera phones for a long time for their showyoffyness and higher potential to go wrong and general ridiculousness I am now appreciating mine.  Here are some swish photos I would have missed.

Some very impressive snow angels on a slanted wall.

You know you’re in Scotland when: The supermarket has a Tennants aisle.

Image045.jpg

Dad karate-ing.

Image042.jpg

Horizontal scaffolding.  Madness.

Image050.jpg

Motivational magnets?  Parents, why didn’t you give me these as a child?

And my favourite set-as-wallpaper photo of the moment:

Hand spray painted on traffic light.

You can officially ask NO MORE from me for roughly 3 months.

Help with graffiti

Filed under: Life, John, Jo — Sarah @ 1:13 pm

I’ve stolen Josephine’s very grown up and mature felt tip pens that write on windows.  So far I have stars and the words “Sarah Rules” up there.

Give me something else to write up there.  I’ll even take pictures of it when it’s done.  My imagination is broken.  (John this is your cue.)

N*Street Boys and Sync Back

Filed under: Life, John — Sarah @ 11:26 am

Firstly and probably most importantly: John and I are/were/will be N*Sync and Backstreet boys.  Don’t ask me why or how, it involved time travel and reincarnation.

I went to see The Rakes in Glasgow on Wednesday.  What an absolutely amazing awesome show.  They were supported by Switches, The Duels and White Rose Movement.  I had heard of and was a fan of White Rose Movement already so that performance was excellent.  But suprisingly, the other two acts were also very easily listenable to.  I usually make it a rule to despise at least one support act but I just could not do it this time round.  The Rakes were also good, jump-about-shout-feel-small kind of good.

I have been living an adventurous life recently.  On both Thursday and Friday night the fire alarm went off.  Both times when the door was opened the corridor was filled with smoke.  It’s somewhat scary.  Hath no fear, no one was hurt.

I do have a sore throat though.  Sympathy cough…
